Our friend and neighbor Bill Kolar passed away Nov. 17

William A. Kolar, 71, passed away at Community Hospice of NE Fla. in Jacksonville, Fla. on November 17, 2015. Bill lived and loved deeply and was cherished by his family in Baltimore, Maryland and also by his St. Augustine and Jacksonville extended family members and dear friends.

He enjoyed a lifetime career as a stonemason and created magnificent water and landscape features. His passions included art, design, music and especially his beloved home and surroundings, and the people and beauty of Valencia Street and St. Augustine.

He was preceded in death by his father Thomas A. Kolar and mother Mary P. Brazis, and nephew Jared Neville. Bill is survived by his loving and devoted life companion Bonnie Hayflick; his sisters Carol, Betsy and Marianne, along with many nieces and nephews, and their children. He will miss his lifelong best friends Joe and Christine DiPaulo of Houston, Tx. and St. Augustine, Fla. Craig Funeral Home, Crematory, and Memorial Park is in charge of arrangements.

22nd annual Nights of Lights begins tomorrow night 

Entertainment starts at 4:00pm; Light-Up ceremony at 6:30pm
     Tomorrow night, November 21, St. Augustine’s annual holiday celebration, Nights of Lights, begins with a lighting ceremony at 6:30pm in the Plaza de la Constitucion. It’s the 22nd year for the 10-week long event that sees the city transformed into a city of light.
